Here you can see the next step in the "lost wax" process of making a bronze sculpture. The photo on the left is a mold made from the finished plaster pieces. The center photo shows wax being cast in the mold. On the right is a finished wax ready to be encased in a ceramic shell. The shell is fired which melts out the wax. This is where the term "lost wax" comes from.

Here the crew at Shidoni Foundry pours molten bronze into the cavity left by the wax.
The bronze is 2000 degrees when it is poured!

The photo on the left is a pile of "parts" after they have been chipped out of the shell.
On the right is some of the figures after they have been assembled
.

At last I can smile as the 7 figures are connected and standing again!

Nearing completion, the figures are sand blasted which gives them a white appearance. The only step left is to apply the patina that will give the piece its final color.

Here is one of the first pictures of the sculpture after the unveiling. It is from the Las Vegas Sun.

The public unveiling was Tuesday May 13th, 1997. Press from all over the world showed up to cover the event. All three Las Vegas television stations carried the story on all of their newscasts and both newspapers carried stories about it. I have a page of Links to some of the stories I have found online.
